Vote no on big beautiful bill
To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn
From: A constituent in Longview, TX
June 30, 2025
I’m writing to urge you to vote against the “Big Beautiful Bill” when it comes before the Senate tomorrow. While marketed as a pro-growth measure, this bill would deeply harm working Americans, gut essential safety nets, and worsen our national debt.
According to the CBO, the bill would leave nearly 12 million more Americans uninsured by 2034, largely due to severe Medicaid and SNAP cuts. These include 80-hour/month work requirements and tighter restrictions that would cause millions to lose access to healthcare and food assistance—particularly seniors, disabled Americans, and low-income families.
Meanwhile, the bill would lock in the 2017 tax cuts—permanently slashing taxes for corporations and the wealthy—while pushing $880 billion in Medicaid cuts over the next decade. That’s a clear transfer of wealth upward, at the expense of our most vulnerable.
This bill also eliminates clean energy tax credits that have supported thousands of jobs across Texas, replacing them with new taxes on solar and wind. Even business leaders like Elon Musk have warned this will hurt U.S. competitiveness and job creation.
The CBO estimates the bill will add $3.3 to $3.8 trillion to the national deficit. That’s fiscally irresponsible, especially when those funds could be used for infrastructure, education, or affordable housing.
Even conservative lawmakers like Sen. Josh Hawley have spoken out, calling it “morally wrong and politically suicidal.” Our state cannot afford to lose rural hospital funding or force families off Medicaid just to finance tax breaks for billionaires.
This bill does not represent Texas values—or the best interests of everyday Americans. Please stand with your constituents and vote no on this harmful legislation.
