Oppose Funding Cuts to NPR and PBS

To: Rep. Smucker, Sen. McCormick, Sen. Fetterman

From: A constituent in Lititz, PA

July 14

Public broadcasting plays a vital role in providing access to news, educational programming, and emergency information across the United States. Cutting funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting would severely undermine this critical service, particularly in rural and underserved areas where commercial media options are limited. Such a move would deprive millions of Americans of reliable, fact-based journalism and valuable educational content. Furthermore, the proposed $1.1 billion in cuts to CPB represents a minuscule fraction of the federal budget, yet it sustains the operational capacity of over 1,000 local NPR stations and 336 PBS stations nationwide. These stations serve as vital community resources, offering local news coverage, emergency alerts, and programming that enriches the lives of citizens. I urge you to reject H.R. 4, the Rescissions Act of 2025, and any efforts to undermine public broadcasting. Protecting this funding is an investment in an informed citizenry, educational opportunities, and the well-being of communities across the country. Public media plays an integral role in our democracy and should be safeguarded, not defunded.
