Demand for Investigation and Accountability Regarding DOGE Data Access

To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

April 13

I am writing as a deeply concerned constituent regarding the recent revelations about the Department of Government Efficiency and its access to sensitive Social Security Administration data. What has come to light is not a minor administrative failure. It is a serious breach of public trust that demands immediate investigation and accountability. Reports indicate that DOGE personnel accessed highly sensitive personal data, potentially transferred it outside official channels, and may have exposed it to politically connected entities. Even more troubling, the government has acknowledged that earlier representations to the court were inaccurate, meaning decisions were made based on a materially flawed record. This is unacceptable. The Social Security Administration holds some of the most sensitive personal information in existence, including Social Security numbers, financial records, and medical data. Any misuse or mishandling of this information puts millions of Americans at risk of identity theft, financial harm, and long term privacy violations. The fact that there are still unanswered questions about where this data went and who may have accessed it should alarm every member of Congress. This issue transcends party lines. If a private contractor had engaged in this level of misconduct, there would already be criminal investigations underway. Government actors should not be held to a lower standard. I urge you to take immediate action by calling for a full congressional investigation into DOGE’s activities, demanding transparency from all agencies involved, and supporting any necessary legal action to hold those responsible accountable. The American people deserve to know the full extent of what occurred and to have confidence that their personal information is protected. Failure to act decisively in this moment risks setting a dangerous precedent that those in positions of power can misuse sensitive data without consequence. I ask that you stand up for your constituents and ensure that accountability is not optional.
