We have just changed our clocks again for daylight savings time. Fortunately I survived this adjustment but many people do not. Research shows a 24% increase in heart attacks following the spring ahead and 300,000 strokes annually caused by this disruption to our natural body rhythms.
This is an antiquated practice and the reasoning for why we do it no longer holds true. We began changing the clocks in the US in 1918 to conserve fuel. With the increase in electricity usage 24 hrs a day it no longer saves energy. With the advent of online shopping and 24 hrs businesses it no longer is needed to increase commerce. It does however decrease morning light which damages natural circadian rhythms and keeps the sun up until nearly 10 pm in the summer peak also disrupting sleep.
I implore you to keep us on standard time year round. It is proven to be better for our health and creates a natural consistency with the seasons we desperately need in our constantly deregulated modern lives. Permanent standard time for the health of your constituents!
