Demand for Pete Hegseth’s Resignation Dear Members of the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation, I am writing to urge you to demand the immediate resignation of Pete Hegseth from his current office. Recent actions demonstrate that he is unfit for his position, has violated his oath, and is causing ongoing harm to the U.S. armed services. Undermining National Security: On July 10, 2025, Mr. Hegseth failed to inform the Trump administration of his unilateral decision to withhold weapons already paid for under the Biden administration from Ukraine. This not only disregards established policy, but also undermines America’s commitments to its allies and weakens our credibility abroad, especially at a time when Ukrainian lives depend on our support. Mishandling Classified Information: On April 10, 2025, Mr. Hegseth shared sensitive military attack plans via SIGNAL Chat, including with his wife and lawyer—both of whom lack security clearances. This reckless behavior is a clear violation of security protocols and endangers U.S. military personnel and operations. Breach of Security Protocols: On March 30, 2025, The Atlantic published text messages from that SIGNAL Chat, confirming that classified attack plans were shared openly, despite public denials from the Trump administration. This not only violates federal law but also erodes trust within the Department of Defense and among our allies. Ongoing Harm: Every day Mr. Hegseth remains in office, he undermines the standards of accountability and security essential to our military’s effectiveness. His actions set a dangerous precedent, signaling that violations of protocol and oath may go unpunished. For the security of our nation and the integrity of our armed services, I urge Rhode Island’s delegation to demand Pete Hegseth’s resignation. We must uphold the highest standards of conduct and ensure that those entrusted with our national defense are held accountable. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
