The good folks of Sahuarita and Green Valley are fighting to keep the Santa Rita valley from being stripped of water resources by a gigantic multi open pit copper complex and several proposed data centers. I’m deeply alarmed by the growing claims that unchecked AI models could destroy the world—and humanity— by the decade’s end.
This area is considered “rural” and is gifted with abundant birds and all manner of wildlife. It is a spectacularly beautiful area that currently supports tourism, our major industry. The powers that be are planning to take all of our water to cool data centers and wash rocks. This is happening with the complete endorsement to destroy this region by our state government. It is clear from the mine developers’ communications alone that our aquifer will be consumed well before the ore is all gone. They had originally agreed to replace our water with CAP water at 105%. This is water that no longer exists.
Somebody has to be the guardian of this paradise God gifted us on earth. Please please please do everything in your awesome power to save this very very beautiful and special landscape for all the life it currently supports and for future generations! I am begging you.
This is an emergency. Congress needs to act with urgency. Americans are sick and tired of watching lawmakers focus on the wrong things while this existential threat gets bigger and bigger. We need serious guardrails around AI, a data center moratorium, a Kill Switch bill, and more. Bernie Sanders has a proposal that would ban AI superintelligence. Pass that, too! Most of all we need lawmakers with the courage and independence to stand up to big tech and act—NOW. Please be one. There’s no time to waste. Thanks.
