I am growing increasingly alarmed by the amount of hate speech and Nazi rhetoric coming out of the White House and those that support the President. There was no denying that we watched Elon Musk make a Nazi salute not once, but twice. Now the President has used the pink triangle affixed to the shirts of homosexuals in Nazi concentration camps on his social media account. He was bragging about how people from the LGBTQ+ community will be weeded out and not be welcome to serve their country in the military. What is the President going to do with those military members then? Perhaps they will be sent to an unknown detention center like Mahmoud Khalil. Mahmoud was exercising his first amendment rights. He has a green card and that should not be revoked because he spoke against our government’s policy regarding the war against Hamas. Mahmoud was arrested after attending a religious ceremony during Ramadan. It is chilling to think of this response. President Trump has also threatened to cut off funding for colleges where students exercise their freedom of speech. He said he would deport, expel, and jail students who speak up against the hundred or so executive orders. No American is safe from his desire to shut down and punish anyone who disagrees with him. It is scary for everyone. 80 years ago was not that long ago. We must learn from history or be condemned to repeat it. Please use your Constitutional power and moral authority to put a check on the President and the hateful speech and actions coming from the White House.Thank you.
