Pass Strict Ethics Laws for Supreme Court Justices

To: Sen. Van Hollen, Rep. Elfreth, Sen. Alsobrooks

From: A verified voter in Arnold, MD

October 18

Pass comprehensive ethics reform for Supreme Court justices, including a binding code of conduct, mandatory gift and travel disclosure, and criminal penalties for justices who accept bribes or undisclosed gifts. The current system has no enforceable rules, and justices like Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito have accepted luxury travel, fishing trips, and other benefits from parties with interests before the Court. That is corruption, and it goes unpunished. A binding ethics code is the floor, not the ceiling. Justices who violate it should face removal from the bench and criminal prosecution. Lifetime tenure was never meant to be a shield for betraying the public trust. The Court's legitimacy depends on the people being able to trust that rulings are not for sale, and right now that trust is broken. This is not a partisan issue. No one should be above the law because they wear a robe. Pass real reform with teeth, not a voluntary pledge that justices can ignore the moment it becomes inconvenient.
