MUSK Must Go

To: Sen. Walley

From: A constituent in Henderson, TN

February 2, 2025

The American people did not elect Elon Musk, nor did Congress authorize giving him sweeping access and authority over sensitive government systems like the Treasury Department's payment processing. It is highly concerning that a private citizen now potentially has access to confidential tax data and control over the flow of trillions of dollars in federal payments, from Social Security benefits to contractor payments. This represents an extreme overreach of power by the executive branch with no accountability or checks and balances. For the integrity of our democratic institutions and to protect the private data of millions of Americans, I urge you to take immediate action to revoke Elon Musk's unprecedented access to the federal payment system. A self-appointed "Department of Government Efficiency" run by a billionaire with no government experience or oversight should not be allowed to wield this kind of far-reaching authority over core government functions. Please defend the separation of powers and rein in this unilateral power grab that undermines longstanding processes. Oversight and transparency are essential to prevent abuse and ensure the accountable stewardship of public resources.
