Uphold NYC's sanctuary status, prohibit NYPD-ICE collaboration
To: Gov. Hochul
From: A constituent in Brooklyn, NY
June 9
The recent incidents of NYPD officers assisting federal immigration authorities in detaining immigrants and disrupting protests are deeply concerning. As a sanctuary city, New York should be a safe haven for all residents regardless of immigration status. Law enforcement collaboration with ICE undermines this principle and spreads fear in immigrant communities. I urge you to take immediate action to prohibit NYPD from participating in immigration enforcement activities. Upholding New York's sanctuary policies is crucial for protecting civil liberties and ensuring all residents feel secure accessing essential services without fear of deportation. The city must send a clear message that it will not aid in President Trump's draconian immigration crackdown which is tearing families apart.
