I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you and your colleagues in Congress to take immediate action in response to Trump’s recent Executive Order titled “Strengthening and Unleashing America’s Law Enforcement to Pursue Criminals and Protect Innocent Citizens” issued on April 25, 2025.
While public safety is a deeply important goal, this order raises serious concerns about the balance between necessary policing and the protection of civil liberties. The language in the directive suggests a significant expansion of federal support and deference to law enforcement agencies, potentially at the expense of accountability, oversight, and constitutional protections for American citizens—particularly those in vulnerable communities.
Rather than "unleashing" law enforcement, we should be strengthening transparency, investing in proven community-based crime prevention strategies, and ensuring that the justice system operates fairly for all. Decades of experience and research have shown that unchecked police power can lead to the erosion of civil rights, not an improvement in public safety.
I urge you to:
1. Conduct a thorough review of the Executive Order and its potential consequences.
2. Call for hearings or inquiries into how this order may affect existing civil rights protections.
3. Support or introduce legislation that ensures federal support for law enforcement is paired with meaningful accountability and oversight mechanisms.
4. Don't let them in our State to cause problems
Please stand up for the principles of democracy, justice, and responsible governance. Your leadership on this matter is critical.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent issue. I look forward to your response and action.
