Oppose the prison deal with El Salvador

To: Sen. Wyden, Sen. Merkley, Rep. Bentz

From: A verified voter in Klamath Falls, OR

February 5

The proposal to send incarcerated US citizens and detainees of other nationalities to El Salvador raises serious legal and ethical concerns. This unprecedented deal appears to be a quid pro quo arrangement that amounts to modern day slavery: exchanging human beings for money. The conditions in the facilities in El Salvador have been widely criticized by human rights groups as inhumane with rampant overcrowding, lack of due process, and inadequate access to basic necessities. Shipping US citizens to these facilities would not only be illegal, it would be inhumane and immoral.
