Firsthand Concerns About Pete Serrano’s Nomination from a Fellow Public Servant
To: Sen. Murray, Sen. Cantwell
From: A verified voter in West Richland, WA
August 12
In my five years serving on the West Richland City Council, I have worked with many public officials—most dedicated to serving with honesty, fairness, and respect for the law. Pete Serrano is not one of them.
I am writing to urge you to oppose his appointment as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington. I have known Mr. Serrano since 2019 through his role on the Pasco City Council and have seen firsthand conduct that raises serious concerns about his fitness for this important federal position.
The U.S. Attorney’s office requires leadership that places the rule of law above personal or political gain, that values truth over rhetoric, and that treats all people equally. Mr. Serrano has repeatedly promoted false or misleading narratives to advance partisan objectives, often using divisive language that erodes trust between public officials and the communities we serve.
As lead attorney for the group “Silent Majority,” he sought to weaken proven public health protections during the COVID-19 pandemic—protections based on medical and scientific consensus. His willingness to distort facts in pursuit of ideological goals shows a troubling disregard for objective evidence and the public good.
Our justice system can only function if the public believes those in authority act with impartiality, integrity, and a commitment to facts. In my professional judgment, Mr. Serrano does not embody these qualities. His appointment would jeopardize public confidence in the fair and even-handed application of the law.
For the sake of the Eastern District’s credibility and the trust of those it serves, I respectfully urge you to reject this nomination.
Thank you for your attention and your commitment to safeguarding the integrity of our institutions.
