I am writing as an Ohio resident to express my opposition to House Bill 486, the “Charlie Kirk American Heritage Act,” in its current form.
While I support teaching both religious and non-religious perspectives equally—and allowing individuals to form their own beliefs—I am concerned that this bill appears to emphasize the positive influence of Christianity without ensuring balanced treatment of other religions and viewpoints.
If this legislation is intended to support education rather than promote a particular viewpoint, it should explicitly require inclusive and balanced instruction. This includes acknowledging the contributions of a wide range of belief systems—such as Judaism, Islam, Buddhism—as well as atheism and secular thought, all of which have shaped American history.
Public education should present history in a fair and complete way, including both positive and negative impacts of all ideologies. Without clear safeguards, this bill risks promoting a narrow perspective rather than educating students.
I urge you to oppose HB 486 or amend it to ensure balanced, inclusive, and objective educational standards.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
