I am writing to you as a West Virginian who cares deeply about the health and well-being of our families, neighbors, and communities. I urge you to protect the Affordable Care Act’s tax credit subsidies that help so many working families in our state afford health insurance.
West Virginia has long struggled with high poverty rates, poor health outcomes, and limited access to care. The ACA subsidies have been a lifeline for thousands of people here who otherwise would not be able to afford coverage. Without them, too many West Virginians would be forced to go without the doctor visits, prescriptions, and preventive care they need to stay healthy.
I’ve seen firsthand how important this support is. Families already living paycheck to paycheck cannot absorb skyrocketing premium costs. They should not have to make impossible choices between paying for their medicine, putting food on the table, or keeping the lights on. These subsidies help keep that from happening — they give hardworking people a fighting chance at staying healthy and secure.
We know that when people can see a doctor before problems get worse, it saves lives and reduces costs for everyone. Cutting or weakening these subsidies would set our state back and leave too many of our neighbors behind.
I ask you, please, to stand up for West Virginians who depend on this help. Health care is not a luxury — it is a basic need, and these subsidies are what make it possible for thousands of families in our state to meet that need.
Thank you for your leadership and for listening to the voices of the people you serve.
