Use Your Power: Congress Must Act to Defend Democracy and Truth

To: Sen. Fetterman, Rep. Scanlon, Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in Wayne, PA

April 18

I’m writing with urgent concern about the growing disinformation and erosion of democratic norms under this administration—most recently seen in Secretary RFK Jr.’s harmful autism claims and appointment of a discredited figure to lead a federal initiative. I urge you to take the following concrete actions: 1. Hold officials accountable by launching oversight hearings, issuing subpoenas, and requesting Inspector General investigations into misconduct and disinformation. 2. Protect federal agencies by using appropriations power to prevent political interference, and by passing laws that safeguard scientific integrity and whistleblower protections. 3. Defend democratic norms through legislative guardrails, reform of executive powers, and, when necessary, censure or removal of officials who violate public trust. These steps are well within Congress’s authority. The time to act is now.
