Release House Ethics Committee report on Matt Gaetz allegations

November 19
The House Ethics Committee should release the report detailing its investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct, illicit drug use, and other unethical behavior by former Congressman Matt Gaetz. As a matter of transparency and accountability, the public deserves to know the findings, especially given Gaetz's recent nomination as U.S. Attorney General. While Gaetz is no longer a member of Congress, there is precedent for the committee to disclose investigative reports on former members. Maintaining secrecy would undermine the committee's purpose of upholding ethical standards. The report's contents are highly relevant as the Senate deliberates whether to confirm Gaetz to a Cabinet position overseeing federal law enforcement. The allegations against Gaetz are extremely serious, including potential sex crimes and obstruction of justice. Multiple witnesses have come forward, and the committee reviewed substantial evidence over years of investigation. Releasing the report would allow the Senate and public to properly evaluate Gaetz's fitness for such a powerful role. Ethical issues of this magnitude demand full transparency from Congress.
