November 17
As your constituent, I am reaching out to express my deep appreciation for your dedication to justice and the protection of human dignity. Thank you for your leadership and commitment to upholding ethical standards in government, especially in protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation. I urge you to request that the House Committee on Ethics release its report on the investigation into Representative Matt Gaetz’s conduct. With his recent resignation, the Committee is not required to release the findings, yet this report is critical to determining his fitness for the role of Attorney General. Furthermore, I ask that you encourage the Senate Judiciary Committee to withhold confirmation proceedings for Mr. Gaetz until there is no doubt about whether he engaged in sexual misconduct, including allegations of prostitution and the sex trafficking of a minor. This role demands the highest standards of integrity, and our country deserves an Attorney General who fully embodies these principles. As Attorney General, Mr. Gaetz would be responsible for enforcing the laws meant to protect vulnerable people from sexual exploitation and sex trafficking, laws he is alleged to have violated. Given the immense public interest and the stakes involved, the American people deserve the opportunity to review the results of the Committee’s years-long investigation. It is also essential to understand the troubling intersection between prostitution, sex trafficking, and so-called “sugar dating.” While many attempt to disguise financial exchanges for sex as “gifts” or tuition payments to “girlfriends,” the harsh reality is that these are payments serving as a veil for sexual exploitation. So-called ”sugar dating frequently a front for prostitution and, in many cases, crosses the line into sex trafficking. The majority of individuals involved in such arrangements are vulnerable young women—often marginalized and struggling to make ends meet. When powerful men offer financial support, the power imbalance becomes starkly evident. As an elected member of Congress, Gaetz admitted to attending “sex” parties. These parties reportedly included young women, some allegedly minors, who were paid to participate in sex acts. It is furtheralleged that Gaetz did not merely attend these events but actively participated. Evidence suggests he sent payments through Venmo and Cash App to an associate, who then transferred funds to the women, labeling payments as “tuition.” Some on Mr. Gaetz’s team argued that the prostitution fell outside U.S. jurisdiction because it took place on yachts in international waters, an excuse that does not stand up to moral, and perhaps, legal scrutiny. Thank you again for your commitment to justice and transparency. Please stand with your constituents in ensuring our leaders are held to the standards of accountability that our democracy depends upon.
