Reject unconstitutional abortion criminalization HB 2197 in Texas
To: Rep. Wilson, Sen. Flores
From: A constituent in Cedar Park, TX
April 21
HB 2197 poses a grave threat to reproductive rights in Texas by criminalizing self-managed abortions. This extreme legislation would remove critical legal protections for women, subjecting them to potential prosecution and punishment for making decisions about their own bodies and pregnancies. Such an unprecedented government overreach into personal healthcare decisions is unacceptable. The proposed bill disregards women's human rights by denying them the freedom to make choices aligning with their own circumstances, beliefs, and well-being. It perpetuates an unjust system that prioritizes ideology over compassion and basic liberties. This regressive measure would also inadvertently endanger women's health by driving abortions further underground and deterring those in need from seeking proper medical care or counseling due to fear of legal repercussions. I urge you to firmly oppose HB 2197 and any legislation that strips Texans of their reproductive autonomy. Protect the rights, dignity and wellbeing of your constituents by upholding their ability to make private healthcare decisions without government overreach or coercion. Focus on supporting families and ensuring comprehensive sexual education and access to contraception to reduce unplanned pregnancies. Such an extreme abortion criminalization law is an unacceptable government overreach that undermines fundamental human rights.
