Many of you have either been the targets or the sources of divisive, dehumanizing political speech. You can see in your own comment sections how quickly this language shapes public opinion—how it fuels contempt, erodes trust, and teaches people to view one another as enemies instead of neighbors.
I am asking you to lead differently.
Our country needs leaders who model kindness, respect, and moral courage even when debates are sharp and disagreements are real. Show your constituents that differing views do not justify cruelty. Show them that disagreement is an invitation to study an issue, weigh its ethical consequences, and choose the most humane and principled path forward.
This responsibility is yours. The tone you set becomes the tone the nation follows.
This is your moment to choose non-violent communication, to lift the standard of public discourse, and to lead with decency.
We’re watching. And we’re asking you to rise to the moral weight of your office.
