Stop the inhumane and cruel treatment of immigrants

To: Sen. Young, Sen. Banks, Rep. Carson

From: A constituent in Indianapolis, IN

July 20

The cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrants like Mr. Luis Leon must end. An 82-year-old grandfather who came to the U.S. seeking asylum after surviving torture should not be subjected to such an ordeal. Mr. Leon went missing after being arrested by ICE officers while trying to replace his lost green card. His family was left in anguish, even being falsely told he had died, before finally learning he had been detained and inexplicably sent to a hospital in Guatemala. This is unacceptable mistreatment of a law-abiding resident. We urge immediate action to overhaul the immigration system and detention practices. Immigrants should be treated with dignity, not disappeared into a bureaucratic black hole causing immense suffering for them and their loved ones. Deporting people to random countries against their will violates human rights principles. Policy reforms ensuring due process, transparency, and humane conditions for all immigrants regardless of status are crucial. The current system's cruelty, secrecy and lack of accountability are antithetical to American values of justice and compassion. We implore you to prioritize an immigration overhaul that upholds fundamental rights and human decency.
