This Is Not What A Free Country Looks Like...

I’m writing because I’m angry — and I’m not alone. Americans across the political spectrum are fed up with government officials and agencies chipping away at our freedom of speech and the freedom of the press. These are not small issues. They are the difference between a democracy and a dictatorship.
The new press restrictions under Pete Hegseth’s Pentagon leadership — forcing reporters to sign “pledges” and limiting media access — are straight out of the authoritarian playbook. When the government starts deciding what information is “authorized,” it’s no longer protecting national security; it’s protecting itself from accountability.
And this problem isn’t limited to one administration or party. We’ve seen repeated attempts by powerful figures in Washington — on both sides — to intimidate journalists, comedians, and critics who challenge them. Every time speech is punished or satire is silenced, our democracy weakens.
We must demand that Congress and the White House take immediate action to reaffirm and protect the First Amendment. That means:
Overturning policies that restrict legitimate media access.
Ensuring no administration can blacklist or censor critics.
Upholding the right of artists, journalists, and citizens to speak freely — even when their words make those in power uncomfortable.
Freedom of speech is not a privilege granted by government. It is a right guaranteed by the Constitution. When any leader, in any era, tries to control what people can say, that’s not leadership — it’s control. And control is the first step toward tyranny.
I urge you to act now, before the damage becomes permanent. Protect our rights, restore transparency, and stand up for the voices that make this country free.
