Re-instate the FDA’s quality controls over our food

To: Rep. Sherman, Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff

From: A verified voter in Van Nuys, CA

April 23

I was disgusted and appalled today to learn that the FDA has suspended its quality control program for testing fluid milk and other dairy products, effective April 21, 2025. This suspension, impacting Grade A milk, comes due to staffing shortages and the closure of the FDA's Moffett Center lab, as part of arbitrary workforce cuts within the Department of Health and Human Services by DOGE and permitted by HHS Secretary, RFK Jr. This dangerous move will impact accreditation of labs and consistency in milk safety testing, potentially increasing the risk of foodborne illnesses. In a moment when we’re already finding traces of Bird Flu in milk, this cost-cutting move will not save money in the short term and could also lead to sickness and death in the long term. As your constituent, I’m imploring you: Please speak out against this destructive policy and work to reverse this dangerous backslide in basic food safety and hold RFK Jr. and his DOGE partners accountable for undermining this basic public trust.
