Urge Action on Presidential Accountability and Impeachment
To: Gov. Pritzker
From: A constituent in Chicago, IL
December 23
I am writing to urge you to use your platform and influence to call for the impeachment and removal of President Donald Trump from office. The recent appointment of Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as United States Special Envoy to Greenland represents another troubling example of actions that undermine democratic norms and international relations.
Trump's stated ambitions to acquire Greenland, which he declared in December 2024 as "an absolute necessity" for national security, disregard the sovereignty of Denmark and the self-determination of Greenland's people. Denmark's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, has already insisted that the United States must respect the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark. This appointment of Governor Landry to advance these territorial ambitions through a volunteer position demonstrates a pattern of conduct that threatens international stability and diplomatic relationships with longstanding allies.
The slogan "MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN" and Trump's assertion that Greenland's people would "benefit tremendously" from becoming part of the United States reveals a colonial mindset that has no place in modern governance. These actions damage America's standing in the world and create unnecessary tensions with democratic allies.
As a governor with significant influence within the Democratic Party and among state leaders nationwide, you have the ability to amplify calls for accountability. I urge you to publicly advocate for impeachment proceedings and to work with other governors and elected officials to build momentum for Trump's removal from office. The integrity of our democratic institutions and our international relationships depends on holding the president accountable for actions that undermine both.
I ask that you take immediate action to speak out on this issue and coordinate with congressional leaders who can initiate impeachment proceedings.
