Demand for Investigation: Trump’s Financial Influence on Congress
To: Rep. Moran, Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz
From: A constituent in Kilgore, TX
March 12
I am writing to formally request an immediate investigation into recent reports that President Donald Trump’s political operation has amassed an unprecedented $500 million war chest, which he appears to be using to enforce loyalty and secure votes in Congress. The passage of the recent funding bill—one that faced fierce opposition from fiscal hard-liners until Trump intervened—raises serious concerns about whether financial coercion or undue influence played a role in swaying legislators. Furthermore, President Trump has openly threatened to challenge Republican members who oppose his agenda. For instance, he recently targeted Representative Thomas Massie for his dissent on a spending bill, stating that Massie “should be primaried” for his opposition. Such threats, combined with substantial financial resources, suggest a potential environment of coercion within our legislative process. If there is nothing unethical happening, then a transparent investigation should be welcomed by all members of Congress. However, it will be challenging to establish a truly independent committee, given that President Trump has significantly influenced the judicial system with congressional approval. The recent advancement of a bill by a Republican-led House panel to add more judges, potentially allowing President Trump to appoint additional judiciary members, underscores this concern. Additionally, the administration’s recent actions regarding cryptocurrency regulation raise further concerns. The Senate’s repeal of a Biden-era crypto tax rule, which required decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms to report detailed customer transactions to the IRS, has reduced oversight in the crypto market. This deregulation could potentially facilitate untraceable financial transactions, making it easier for undisclosed funds to influence political processes without detection. This is not about partisan politics; this is about the integrity of our democracy. If a sitting or former president can wield financial power—or the threat of scandal—to dictate legislative outcomes, then Congress is no longer a representative body but an auction house for influence. I urge you to open an official inquiry into President Trump’s financial dealings with members of Congress, campaign contributions tied to key votes, and any external pressures that may be influencing lawmakers’ decisions. The American people demand transparency, and history will remember whether you chose to protect democracy or enable its corruption.
