I am writing as a constituent to express concern about several recent developments affecting election administration, and to ask that your office use its oversight authority to seek clarity on these issues.
Specifically, I am concerned about:
1. The firing of all three Election Assistance Commission members — The EAC helps certify election equipment and supports state/local election officials, including through election security grants. I'd like to know your position on this action and whether you support timely, bipartisan replacements ahead of the midterms.
2. The SAVE Act — I'd like to understand your position on this legislation and what safeguards exist to ensure eligible voters (including married women who've changed their names) aren't disenfranchised by documentary proof-of-citizenship requirements.
3. Voter roll purge protections — There is a long-standing federal protection barring states from systematically purging voter rolls within 90 days of an election. I'm concerned about efforts to weaken or reinterpret that protection through the courts, and would like to know your position on preserving it.
4. Requests for state voter roll data — I would like to know whether your office has received information about federal requests for state voter data, and what legal authority governs those requests.
I'd appreciate knowing your position on these issues and what steps you or your committee(s) are taking to ensure transparency in how our elections are administered.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
