It is hard to remain silent, to sit back and not voice my despair as the world descends into greater discord and pain. The grim reality laid bare in front of us, the cries of innocent Palestinian civilians echoing across borders, strips me of any apathetic insulation. The atrocities committed have scraped away the thin veneer of civility from humanity, revealing an ugly, oft-forgotten face of our civilization. We urge, with all the strength in our hearts and all the might in our words, for an immediate ceasefire. We need to cease the bombing, stop the killing and halt the reckless flow of arms that only serves to perpetuate this cycle of violence.
Each day, as the U.S. continues to fund Israeli actions against Palestinian civilians, a child loses their parent, a mother loses her child, and a family their home. It is appalling and disheartening to witness the unabashed disregard for human life, a crime against humanity that must abruptly cease. We cannot afford to turn a blind eye and continue justifying the unjustifiable. In this spirit, we passionately urge for an immediate cessation of the U.S. funding which abets the ongoing violence in Palestine.
It is time to demonstrate a greater responsibility towards the sanctity of human life and to uphold the values of justice we often speak about. Let us not allow the homes of those in far-off lands to be ravaged while we live in peaceful security. Society's condemnation must be loud and echoing, for the cries of the oppressed should not be drowned out by the noise of the bombs. The flow of arms that contributes to the bloodshed needs to be stopped. Let's speak up, rise against the inequity, and demand justice for Palestine. The time to act is not tomorrow, not later, but right now.
