Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to legislatively block and/or Vote NO on any measure -‘emergency’ or other that seeks to expand offshore drilling along the California coast. This comes in the wake of the Trump attempt to call this new exploration and drilling an emergency in order to circumvent state law and environmental review. In truth, the stupidity of the Trump Administration has caused a serious disruption of oil supplies that cannot be quickly remedied, even if the war with Iran ended favorably tomorrow. Such exploration and expanded drilling is not viable, and we don’t need another group of fossil-fuel millstones hanging around kong after renewables could easily supply our energy needs. The California coastline supports a fishing and tourism economy worth billions of dollars annually, and a single major spill would devastate it for decades. The 1969 Santa Barbara blowout still serves as a warning — we don't need to repeat that lesson. California's coastal communities, marine ecosystems, and local economies are not acceptable collateral damage for oil industry profits. Clearly Sable Offshore is currying favor with the enormously corrupt Trump Administration. I urge you instead to heavily promote and defend Clean energy investment. We already know it creates more jobs and more long-term economic stability than offshore drilling ever will. Stand with California and block this. Thank you.
