I am writing as a constituent to urge immediate congressional action to rein in Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations following the recent killing of a civilian in Minnesota and reports of enforcement activity at or near a public school. Regardless of one’s views on immigration policy, the use of lethal force against civilians and aggressive operations that endanger schools and families represent a clear failure of oversight and restraint. These events have eroded public trust and risk further loss of life. ICE operates under authority delegated by Congress. That authority carries a responsibility to ensure enforcement is conducted lawfully, proportionally, and with respect for civil liberties. When federal agencies act in ways that alarm communities, disrupt schools, or result in civilian deaths, Congress has both the power and the duty to intervene. I am asking you to support and advance the following actions: Immediate congressional hearings into the Minnesota incident and related ICE operations, including public release of body camera footage and rules of engagement. Statutory limits on ICE use of force, with clear accountability mechanisms for violations. Prohibitions on enforcement actions in or near schools, hospitals, and other sensitive locations. Restoration of meaningful congressional oversight to ensure ICE focuses on legitimate public safety threats rather than broad, destabilizing raids. Strong borders and lawful enforcement do not require unchecked power. Public safety, constitutional rights, and community stability must come first. Allowing federal agencies to operate without firm guardrails invites abuse and undermines confidence in government itself. I expect Congress to act swiftly to prevent further harm and to assert its constitutional role over federal law enforcement agencies. Thank you for your attention. I look forward to your response.
