Do not confirm Jeffries without concessions

To: Rep. Tonko

From: A verified voter in Schenectady, NY

November 5

I am your constituent in Schenectady. Last night voters gave Democrats the House and rebuked the Trump administration. Affordability carried the campaign, and families expect results. Voters also expect Congress to check a president whom I consider a fascist, served by a Republican Congress that deferred to a unitary-executive theory of presidential power. I want investigations backed by subpoenas, and prosecutions and trials where the evidence supports them. Federal judges found DOGE's dismantling of USAID likely unconstitutional and ruled its grant terminations unlawful. A Lancet study projects more than 14 million additional deaths by 2030 if the USAID cuts continue, and NIH grant terminations disrupted at least 383 clinical trials with roughly 74,000 participants. Forces seized Nicolas Maduro without congressional authorization, and billions in Venezuelan oil revenue sit in accounts the president says he controls. The $TRUMP memecoin earned the Trump family at least $350 million by one analysis, Donald Trump Jr. advises Kalshi and Polymarket, and Jared Kushner's Gulf-funded firm has grown into a multibillion-dollar enterprise while he serves as an envoy. Senator Welch and Representative Min are investigating whether pardons were for sale. The Justice Department settled the HPE-Juniper merger over the objections of its antitrust chief. Detention Watch Network counts 52 deaths in ICE custody since the inauguration, and federal agents killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. Congress passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act 427 to 1, and I want every record released and anyone the evidence implicates prosecuted, whatever their wealth. You voted for Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker in 2023. This vote deserves more scrutiny. In August, Leader Jeffries met privately with Jared Kushner, then promised that no one in the "Trump cartel" would get a pass. I do not believe he has shown he is ready for this moment. Please require every Speaker candidate to commit in writing to a funded, subpoena-backed oversight agenda with a timeline, a parallel affordability schedule, disclosure of any contact with people under investigation, and refusal of corporate PAC money and money from pro-Israel lobbying groups such as AIPAC and its affiliated PACs. Federal Election Commission data compiled by ProPublica shows your campaign has taken years of contributions from corporate PACs, including Aflac and AES. I ask you to stop. Refuse corporate PAC money and AIPAC-linked money, and say so publicly. I believe you will earn deeper support in this community if you do. I also ask you to vote to block offensive US arms sales to Israel. I believe Israel's conduct in Gaza is genocide, as a UN Commission of Inquiry concluded in September 2025 and again in October 2026, including killings after the October 2025 ceasefire. In July 2024 the International Court of Justice found that Israel's continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territory is unlawful.
