Oppose budget, especially cuts to SNAP

To: Sen. Johnson, Rep. Fitzgerald, Sen. Baldwin

From: A constituent in Waukesha, WI

June 16

I am a mother of two school-age children, a teacher, and a proud member of my community in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I strongly oppose the current budget bill that is moving being debated. This bill directly favors the wealthy in America and cuts more services and help for families and children, along with the most vulnerable among us. Ignoring this fact would not save anyone money in the end, but instead lead to rising costs in healthcare and other supports across the country. Most of the time, these cuts at the federal level would result in higher costs at the state level. Many of the changes in this bill to SNAP, as only one example of this, would make it harder for children to be fed at home or in school. I have seen firsthand in our own community how many children rely on school breakfasts and lunches as their main healthy meals each day. When children do not have access to healthy food, they will have increased medical issues, less ability to function well in school and reach their learning goals, and can often find themselves struggling far past childhood into their adult lives. This is a basic and fundamental need, and it should not be shortchanged so that we can build border walls or give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy. Please speak up to create a budget that genuinely uses our tax money well to create a thriving, healthy America.
