The Russia/ukraine/starlink BUCK NEEDS to Stop Somewhere

October 23

Here’s a smack-you-upside-the-head analogy for the times we are in… Pete Hegseth was so eager to get one of the historical floor globes Eisenhower used during WWII installed in his office that rather than waiting for trained curators to move it, as is standard protocol with such objects, Hegseth’s staff decided to retrieve it on their own. They dropped it. The artifact smashed into its base, and the stand impaled it, ripping a gash through the fragile globe. It is currently undergoing repairs. Meanwhile, the president of the US and a private citizen, recipient of massive federal largesse, and apparent master of global telecommunications, are in a feud as to who did, and continues to, tamper with Ukraine’s ability to protect itself against Russian attacks. He said, he said. Regardless, it is obvious they are both on the side of Russia. And not Ukraine. We read that one reason may be that a Russian oil producer is about to go broke due to continued Ukrainian drone attacks on their facilities. This wouldn’t help the Russian economy. We just don’t know the whole story. But what our government offers us as an explanation for comms disruption is not to be swallowed. The administration, including Secretary of State Rubio and US ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker, have tried to sell the slowdown as purely a business decision that Musk has the authority to make. Whitaker told Fox News: “They are a private company. Obviously they have terms of use that are applied to all of their customers, including the Ukrainians, and I think it’s more of a dispute along those lines…than anybody in this administration trying to change the way that Starshield or Starlink is used.” Strategic studies scholar Phillips P. O’Brien wasn’t buying that explanation, posting that it is evident “the White House is desperately trying to make [Musk] the fall guy for what is happening to Ukraine.” He continued: “If Trump wanted to help Ukraine militarily and with starshield he could. He is president. He doesn’t want to.” And there you have the mess of the day. The president of the United States, the commander in chief of the United States military, is suggesting he had to negotiate with a private citizen to tell him to stop interfering with American foreign policy. If you ever wanted to see what submission looks like, there you have it. Odds are pretty certain Trump and Musk both have their fingerprints all over this shameful situation. And odds are this won’t be the last of what we read about the whole who, what, where, and why of it all. Someone somewhere needs to be held responsible for such a violation of America’s foreign policy towards an ally. We sick and tired of the unaccountability of this administration. And apparently, if you listen to our president, he knows nothing about nothing. Do you believe that?
