I am writing to express my deep concern and strong opposition to the proposed $880 million cut to Medicaid in the “Big Bill.”
This decision would have catastrophic consequences for millions of Americans, especially the most vulnerable members of our communities — including low-income families, seniors, people with disabilities, and children.
Medicaid is not a luxury. It is a life-saving program that provides access to basic healthcare for over 70 million Americans. Cutting $880 million would mean:
• Loss of coverage for thousands who rely on Medicaid for cancer treatment, prenatal care, insulin, mental health support, and other essential services.
• Overwhelmed hospitals and emergency rooms, especially in rural and underserved areas already stretched thin.
• Thousands of healthcare jobs lost, destabilizing local economies and hurting the very communities this bill claims to serve.
• Higher long-term public costs, as untreated conditions turn into emergencies, leading to more expensive care and worse outcomes.
Programs likely to face immediate cuts include home- and community-based services for the elderly and disabled, mental health and substance use treatment, and services for children with special needs. These aren’t just numbers on a balance sheet — they are the difference between life and death, stability and crisis, hope and despair.
Please consider the human cost of this decision. We ask you to vote NO on any legislation that reduces Medicaid funding, and instead support policies that strengthen our healthcare system and protect vulnerable Americans.
