Support + Expand the People's Protect Act! Protect Immigrant Communities from ICE, and all of Massachusetts from complicity! I am concerned that the House version of the Protect Act doesn't do enough to truly protect us from a rogue agency. While the Protect Act includes important steps, it doesn't go far enough. I am writing to urge your support in filing the Stronger Senate Version of the PROTECT Act. Anything less is insufficient. Anything less perpetuates MA's complicity with ICE's anti-American mission. The "People's Protect Act" is based on three priorities of grassroots Immigration groups: 1. End Massachusetts' only existing 287(g) program! That will - Prohibit information sharing with ICE, - End "Fusion Centers!" 2. Mandate universal access to Virtual court proceedings! - Require agencies to respond to certification agencies with accountability, 3. Reject the House's reduction of provisions intended to make U and T Visa certification more accessible. Restore the PROTECT Act's original draft language, which - Expands the agencies eligible to certify, - Protects qualifying dependents from aging out, and - Requires agencies to respond to certification requests within 30 days. More info at bit.ly/peoplesprotectactMA it is important to me that you take the strongest possible action to protect our Immigrant neighbors! Will you please discuss our demands with your colleagues, especially Sen. Payano, Sen. Friedman, and Senate President Spilka? Please Strengthen and Pass the most effective PROTECT Act possible! Thank you in advance for doing the right thing in this matter.
