VOTE NO on Budget Bill, STOP cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, etc

To: Sen. Husted, Rep. Joyce, Sen. Moreno

From: A constituent in Mentor, OH

July 1

I’m your constituent and we need to talk. I have a few opinions for you and I need to to hear, them all. I just learned that House Agriculture committee voted to cut $300 billion from nutrition assistance programs. I find this shameful. Let me share some data with you. 42 million of us need help to get enough to eat every month in this country. There are actually another 5 million seniors who qualify for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance but are too ashamed to ask for help and they go hungry. That 42 million is 12.5% of our country. It is mothers, fathers, children and seniors. I want you to make sure that those cuts DO NOT GO TRHOUGH. 12.5% of your constituents (or more) are poor and don’t deserve to go to bed hungry. While I have your attention I want to tell you that 23.5% of us have Medicaid and I don’t want you cutting that either. When they become sick without healthcare it will cost all of us a lot more. While we are talking about healthcare PLEASE DO NOT CUT ACA subsidies. because without them those people will be without health insurance and you already know that will cost us all a lot more. Medicare and social security are the same story, except recipients have paid for that their entire lives and it is cruel to cheat them at the end of their lives by cutting their earned benefits. I know it is a long list but I want you to not support any cuts to any nutrition assistance programs, Medicaid, ACA subsidies, Medicare or Social Security. Thank you. By the way, according to the 2020 CBO report we could save $600 billion (in 2020 dollars) every year on health care with Universal Healthcare by cutting out wasted overhead and negotiating drugs for all of us. Here is that report. https://www.cbo.gov/system/files/2020-12/56811-Single-Payer.pdf Your constituents will not "get over it" by the next election, because your party's extreme actions have now politically activated millions of people who will make sure our family, neighbors, friends, coworkers, bosses, parents, etc. understand the harm that is coming to them because of this bill. We will make sure they understand the deceptive timing of the cuts to Medicaid, expiration date of tax-free tips and overtime, and the use of current policy baseline to pass this budget bill that is ABSOLUTELY NOT deficit-neutral. Ohioans already hate this bill. Support this bill and we will vote you out in a landslide.
