Oppose H.R. 7008: Reject the Voter ID Trojan Horse

To: Sen. McCormick, Sen. Fetterman

From: A verified voter in Lititz, PA

July 25

Vote no on H.R. 7008, the Stop Insider Trading Act. The House passed it 232-198, and it now lands in the Senate as a poisoned package — a watered-down stock trading restriction bundled with H.R. 9368, the Voter ID Act, which mirrors the voter suppression provisions from Trump's SAVE America Act. These two issues have no business being in the same bill. The stock trading provisions are toothless on their own. The bill doesn't require members of Congress to divest existing holdings, doesn't ban insider trading outright, and doesn't even cover the President or Vice President. Attaching restrictive voter ID language to this fig leaf of ethics reform doesn't make either policy better — it just makes both harder to oppose. Don't let that calculation work. Reject this bill and push for a clean, meaningful ban on congressional stock trading that stands on its own.
