Regarding funding for the Department of Homeland Security, I urge you to read the poem written by Pastor Martin Niemöeller titled "First They Came". First they came for the Communists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Communist Then they came for the Socialists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Socialist Then they came for the trade unionists And I did not speak out Because I was not a trade unionist Then they came for the Jews And I did not speak out Because I was not a Jew Then they came for me And there was no one left To speak out for me There are no checks and balances to curb ICE's abuses of power, nor are there limits to who they are targeting. A breach in justice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are not safe in our Kansas communities; it is only a matter of time before they expand and go after anyone who is not in support of the current administration. As proven by the many on the Right who have fallen out of good standing with the President, per the poem above, no one is safe from being turned on -- including you, despite your support of the President. Please withhold funding for the DHS until there are adequate measures to curb ICE's lawlessness.
