Stop KOSA, No UK Online Safety Act in a Democratic Society!

To: Rep. Kaptur, Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted

From: A verified voter in Clyde, OH

December 4

I am writing to express my opposition to the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) and similar state-level online age verification laws. While I fully support the aim of enhancing children's safety online, the approach taken by these laws poses serious risks to privacy and civil liberties. The requirement for age verification can necessitate the collection of personal data, leading to potential exposure of sensitive information. This not only threatens the privacy of minors but also adults who may inadvertently be required to share their information. Moreover, these measures may create barriers to free expression and inadvertently limit children's access to informative and educational content. It's essential to provide safe online spaces without sacrificing the right to privacy and expression. I encourage you to seek alternative solutions that focus on education and parental involvement rather than imposing legislation that could have unintended negative consequences. Protecting our children is a priority, but it must be balanced with the protection of our fundamental rights. Thank you for considering my concerns on this issue.
