Reject political interference in IU's self-governance

To: Sen. Young, Sen. Banks, Rep. Houchin

From: A constituent in Bloomington, IN

April 24

This proposed change undermines the autonomy and democratic governance of Indiana University by allowing the governor to unilaterally appoint the Board of Trustees. As a public institution, IU's nearly 90,000 students, faculty, staff, and alumni have a vested interest in maintaining self-governance and accountability through elected representatives. Stripping away this critical safeguard compromises the university's ability to act in the best interests of its stakeholders and uphold its academic integrity free from political interference. I urge you to reject this ill-conceived power grab and preserve IU's long-standing tradition of independent oversight.
