An Open Letter

September 24

Oppose the purchase of Tegna by Nexstar. In today's increasing polarization of political views, strongly driven by the 24 hour news cycle and 'news as e ntertainment', consolidating media into conglomerates on decreases the ability of people to have access to both sides of an issue. When you only see one side of an issue, it becomes harder to find the common ground to move forward and solve the real problems we have in this country. If the only access you have is filtered through one lens, you are depriving people of the ability to even be aware of other viewpoints. Having opposing viewpoints available isn't indoctrination. In fact, compromise and finding the common ground used to be a strength of the United States. Now it's scorc hed earth position to win at all costs and the country is fractured. We have antitrust laws to stop monopolies...use them. It's not just about Tegna and Nexstar but that is the current issue. Thank you for your time.
