No-one is exempt from the rule of law, that includes the President and Congress.

To: Rep. Fulcher, Sen. Crapo, Sen. Risch, Pres. Trump

From: A constituent in Nampa, ID

February 11

I am writing to express my deep concern about the importance of maintaining the rule of law within our constitutional system, particularly as it relates to the executive branch's obligation to abide by court rulings. The separation of powers is a cornerstone of the United States government, ensuring that no single branch exceeds its authority. This fundamental principle demands that the executive branch, regardless of who occupies the office of the presidency, respects and enforces judicial decisions, even when it disagrees with them. Our judiciary, as established under Article III of the Constitution, has the authority to interpret the law and adjudicate disputes. When courts issue rulings, they are not merely offering suggestions; they are delivering binding legal decisions that must be upheld. If the executive branch were to disregard these decisions simply because it finds them politically or ideologically inconvenient, the legitimacy of our entire democratic system would be called into question. Disregarding judicial rulings would set a dangerous precedent, eroding public trust in the legal system and opening the door for future administrations to selectively enforce laws based on political convenience. This would create a constitutional crisis, where the judiciary’s ability to check executive power is nullified, and our government ceases to function as a democracy governed by the rule of law. Regardless of political affiliation, all branches of government must recognize that adherence to court rulings is not optional; it is a constitutional duty. If executive authorities are permitted to defy judicial decisions with impunity, it would mark a fundamental departure from the system of checks and balances that has safeguarded our republic for over two centuries. Furthermore, members of Congress have a responsibility to stand up for the Constitution and ensure that the executive branch does not overstep its authority. They must not simply look the other way when judicial rulings are ignored. Instead, they should use their legislative powers to hold the executive accountable, reaffirming their duty to protect the rule of law and the integrity of our democratic institutions. I urge all elected officials, including members of the executive branch, to reaffirm their commitment to the Constitution and uphold the rule of law. The alternative is a path toward authoritarian governance, where the will of the few overrides the legal protections meant to safeguard the rights of all. I do not and will not live in an authoritarian regime. So, please everyone needs to do the right thing and follow the rule of law. I do every day, as does almost every citizen in the USA. None of you are exempt from these laws.
