I grew up being sold a false reality of a country that values freedom, truth, and "justice for all". The reality is far less inspiring. For too long, this country has excluded, persecuted, and harmed people for being different. And all along, we were sold a "great" nation. This month alone, I saw American cities ravaged by secret police. This has been aided and abetted by a government body that is supposed to prevent this. I see my own representative and Senators, who I voted for, failing to meet the moment we're in with the dire immediacy that we need. Instead, we get lip service. Performative tweets. Party leaders who fold at the slightest inconvenience. Meanwhile, people are dying. Families torn apart. Our basic civil rights, the bedrock of our Constitution, eroding. We feel abandoned. We feel betrayed. Look around, we are tired. We are angry. We are looking to you to do something, to fight back. We need a true opposition party. Instead you're working with Republicans to sunset Section 230? This is your priority? What are we doing here? Whose side are you on? This system is broken, the nation is coming apart at the seams, and you are frustratingly playing by rules that no longer exist. We need you to abolish ICE. Not defund, abolish. You cannot "fix" this institution. It needs to go away. We need you to commit to holding people accountable who committed atrocities against both American Citizens and undocumented immigrants, neither deserved the violence and destruction inflicted on them. We need to see the entire Party coalesce around this messaging. We have grown jaded by Party messaging these last few weeks, and have little confidence that you will become the strong opposition that we desperately need you to be. But you need to know that victory at the ballot box absolutely depends on your willingness to fight for and defend your constituents. Are you going to answer the call, or are we just gonna get more tweets?
