Standing With LGBTQ+ Constituents

To: Sen. Nesbitt, Gov. Whitmer, Rep. Andrews

From: A constituent in Stevensville, MI

March 12

I want you to know that I see you, I support you, and I will continue fighting for your rights and dignity in our community. LGBTQ+ people deserve to live openly without fear of discrimination in housing, employment, healthcare, or any aspect of public life. You deserve legal protections that recognize your humanity and your right to equal treatment. You deserve leaders who will stand up for you, not just in election years but every single day. I'm committed to supporting legislation that bans discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, that protects transgender youth from harmful bans on healthcare and participation in school activities, and that ensures hate crimes are prosecuted with the seriousness they deserve. I will oppose any effort to roll back existing protections or to use religious exemptions as cover for discrimination. Your families are families. Your marriages are marriages. Your identities are valid. I will keep working to make sure our laws reflect those truths, and I will use my voice and my vote to push back against anyone who tries to erase or marginalize you. You belong here, and I'm proud to represent you.
