As the wife of a 100% disabled veteran, I’m writing to encourage you to support the Major Richard Star Act. After serving more than 18 years active duty, my husband was medically retired from the Air Force and thus not eligible for full retirement benefits. This scenario impacts many other families whose service member would’ve continued serving, if not for their injuries.
However, the Take Care of American’s Veterans Act does anything but. By stripping away eligible conditions, it treats veterans differently depending on when they served, and ignores the very real impacts of their service. While not as “dramatic” as an amputation or TBI, both tinnitus and sleep apnea are very real disorders and should continue to be treated and compensated as such.
I urge you to sign onto Discharge Petition #22 and force a clean voter on the Major Richard Star Act to protect our veterans without compromise.
