Seniors and the disabled.

To: Gov. DeWine, Rep. Tims, Sen. Blackshear

From: A verified voter in Dayton, OH

January 8

The burden on seniors & the disabled to just live life every day, I feel that is not fully appreciated or understood. I feel that we need to have MORE benefits, not LESS. What ANY reduction of our EARNED BENEFITS can do to us isn't taken into consideration. Two things that would REALLY benefit us are: affordable housing options and transportation. I myself am disabled 50 year old woman. I have mobility problems due to my conditions. I'm not able to drive. And getting a reliable mode of transportation at discounted rates would help so much. It would stretch my meager income. Due to my mobility problems, walking to a bus stop is physically impossible. Rideshare apps are so very expensive. When I'm unable to find transportation I usually do rely upon primarily Lyft or Uber. If they could give us discounts, I'd be so happy. However, I know this isn't something you can necessarily change with these rideshare companies. Finding transportation options would be fantastic. Why don't we have a train system in Ohio? The second point I would like to discuss is affordable housing. My disability payment is $1400/month. That's below the poverty level. How am I supposed to be able to afford rent at $900 a month and other expenses, including: Groceries, medical expenses, WiFi, mobile phone plans, and maybe a little entertainment like cable TV and streaming services. It all begins to add up quickly. When buying a home, mortgage payments should be around 30% of your income. Why aren't their apartments and communities that will fall in line with that? That would help tremendously! Then maybe I could save money for myself instead of literally living paycheck to paycheck. We aren't just lazy slobs who won't support themselves working 40 hours a week. We shouldn't be living below the poverty line. We've done nothing wrong. The wealth disparity gap in America is staggering! But that's not ever taken into consideration when making laws. Or when tax codes are made and benefit only the wealthiest citizens and companies. America was most prosperous during the FDR years. This was due to the wealth tax and closing of tax loopholes so that the wealthy finally started contributing their fair share of taxes. Our nation can only grow when funded properly. The wealthiest Americans haven't been paying their fair share anymore. I hope you will take my words into consideration.
