I am writing to urge you and your congressional colleagues to use the full authority of Congress to invoke the War Powers Resolution of 1973 and end this Republican administration’s unauthorized military campaign against Iran. Congress has a duty to act decisively in this. No declaration of war has been issued. No Authorization for the Use of Military Force against Iran has been passed. This Republican administration has unilaterally committed American troops to a conflict with no clear objective, no coherent justification, and no end in sight, and it is destabilizing an entire region in the process. There is no a national security imperative in attacking Iran. Our soldiers deserve better. Military families across this country, including mine, are watching their loved ones deploy into harm's way for the sake of a purely political agenda. America does not need this war, and a vast majority of Americans voters oppose it. Congress has the power to stop this: 1. Force a floor vote on a War Powers Resolution compelling withdrawal of forces within 60 days. 2. Use the Congress’ advise-and-consent role to demand full accountability from the administration. 3. Hold emergency hearings to expose the legal and strategic basis, or lack thereof, for these actions. The Constitution’s framers put the legislative ranch in charge of war to prevent the executive branch from dragging a nation into costly, unnecessary wars. This is your moment to fulfil your oath to defend the Constitution. My wife and I strongly urge you to invoke the War Powers Resolution and stop this needless advance into an unending war in the Middle East.
