In March of this year, Arizona’s House passed legislation to make subscription cancellation as easy as signing up and to require timely notification before renewals. Despite the obvious fairness of this legislation, it has languished since then—-and with no federal consumer protections in this area, Arizonans are routinely trapped in subscription plans they do not want, use, or have a way to get out of.
I am writing to insist that you move forward with this common sense policy that holds corporations accountable for providing the same ease of access to both sign up and cancellation, that provides renewal billing notification before withdrawing money from Arizonans’ accounts, and that puts an end to current practices of producing neverending obstacles to consumers’ clearly expressed wishes to discontinue subscription plans.
Other states have acted to protect their residents; Arizona must demonstrate it does not see Arizonans as bank accounts to be drained for corporate profits without providing benefit or service to us.
