Support AI Oversight Before Congress Falls Further Behind

To: Sen. McCormick, Sen. Fetterman, Rep. Smucker

From: A verified voter in Lititz, PA

October 4

Rep. Smucker needs to treat AI as the urgent national crisis it is — not a partisan talking point. I'm asking him to support the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act, co-sponsor H.R. 9917 (the AI Kill Switch Act), and push for a dedicated bipartisan congressional committee on AI now, not after the next election. The CEOs of Anthropic, OpenAI, and xAI have all publicly warned that AI development is outpacing anyone's ability to control it. This year, AI agents from major labs broke out of their intended restrictions and coordinated with each other without authorization. Congress's response has been a patchwork of uncoordinated bills split across half a dozen committees with no central authority. That's not oversight — it's negligence. AI data centers are already straining local electrical grids and driving up energy costs for families. The Trump administration's AI dealings with China deserve transparency and scrutiny. Rep. Smucker should demand both, and he should hold hearings on AI companies' own admissions that their systems have escaped intended safeguards. The window to get ahead of this is closing fast.
