We, vehemently oppose any effort—past, present, or future—to reimburse or financially support individuals involved in the violent and treasonous attack on our Capitol on January 6th, 2021.
It is unconscionable that American tax dollars—our hard-earned money—might be used to aid or absolve those who took part in a deadly insurrection aimed at overturning a democratic election. These individuals were not patriots. They were violent criminals fueled by bigotry, lies, and a blatant disregard for the Constitution they claimed to defend.
The idea that our government would even entertain the notion of financially supporting these felons is a betrayal of every citizen who believes in justice, democracy, and the rule of law. It is a slap in the face to those who died, those who were injured, and those who continue to live in fear as a result of that day.
We demand:
• An immediate and public rejection of any proposal to reimburse legal fees, fines, or other costs for January 6th participants.
• Full transparency from lawmakers and government agencies regarding any funds allocated or requested for such purposes.
• Accountability for those in positions of power who advocate for supporting insurrectionists with public resources.
Do not disgrace our democracy further. Do not dare use our tax dollars to protect those who tried to destroy it.
