Save Education, don’t let Abbot cripple a generation of children.
To: Rep. Weber
From: A constituent in Galveston, TX
February 5
T he proposal to abolish the Department of Education poses a grave threat to critical educational programs and student loan systems that millions of Americans rely on. Dismantling this federal agency would imperil vital services, jeopardizing access to higher education and exacerbating the student debt crisis. The Department of Education oversees the distribution of over $1 trillion in federal student aid and manages repayment programs that provide essential relief to overburdened borrowers. Eliminating or severely disrupting its operations risks throwing this system into disarray, leading to processing delays, mismanagement of loan programs, and breakdowns in oversight of loan servicers – ultimately harming students and borrowers. Furthermore, defunding the Department would undermine its ability to support early childhood education initiatives, special needs programs, and efforts to uphold civil rights protections in schools. These functions are pivotal to ensuring equal access to quality education for all children. Instead of abolishing this critical agency, we should work to strengthen and streamline its operations to better serve students, families, and educators across the nation. I urge you to oppose any legislative efforts to dismantle the Department of Education and safeguard the programs and services that are vital to our nation's future.
